90 Points

Tuesday, May 15, 2018 - Ponsot Tasting with Alexandre Abel (Chicago, IL): It's very interesting to compare this next to both the 2005 and the 2016 Grives. With the Grives, it's so clear that this is the denser and more brooding wine of the pair. Whereas the Grives shows exuberant strawberry juice tones, this is far more subdued. Yes, there are youthful sweet fruit notes here, but you need to look for them under the black fruit. Much more tannic and coiled than the Grives. It was much more difficult to make a comparison with the relatively open 2005. This was just packed too tightly right now.
