Saturday, April 6, 2024 - If there was ever a wine I regret that I opened too soon, it was this one. I've had a lot of other burgundies from 2017 and "generally" they seem great to drink now, but this is packed for the long-haul, I mean, these are young vines of Musigny as I understand it, so if you have any, just leave them for 5-15 more years before even consider opening. There is still a pinkish hue when you swirl the glass. The perfume of this wine is still etherial and primary, young dark cherries, roses, black tea verging on lapsang, tomatopuree, minerality. It's a dreamy nose. As soon as you get this in your mouth you understand how primary it is, the fruit is tightly knit with a strong center cherry core, fantastic structure, tannic/acid backbone to keep fresh, but it doesn't blossom. It doesnt let you in. YET. I gave it 90minutes of air and airation before trying. Didn't move the needle that much. Solid 92 now as an experience but there is material for 95-96p wine here.
There is one category of "wines you opened too soon but they still offered a fantastic and amazing experience" and the other "wines that you opened too soon and they were great but you know you are just drinking primary juice and missing out on the complexity it will deliver later" This one is that latter category.

The patiance will be rewarded. You've been warned. :)
