92 Points

Wednesday, June 20, 2012 - Library release. First night: Bright gold and green hued yellow. Wow! Boistrous nose of baking spices, underripe citrus and a strong peach pit/botrytis component. Soft attack with a dry, almost trocken-like mid and especially end palate. Waxy, almost Semillon-like in texture and even flavor aspects. A bit dilute in mouthfeel, almost hollow. Not the depth and structure I'd hoped. Lots of baking and brown spices on the palate as well. Intruiging. Talc emerging over time, along with a very strong baked ripe apple flavor profile, which I don't like.
Second night: Nose more knit, with spicy baked yellow fruit predominant. More acid on the attack, and brighter throughout. This is more of what I expected. Nice long mouthwatering slightly tart finish and packed with the beginnings of secondaries, while still holding delicious, primary, bergamot and slightly underripe white peach fruit. No sign of the botrytis elements or the spiced baked apples from last night.
This is part of why I like aged world-class Riesling - so everchanging and kaleidoscopically alive.
This bottle will last another decade, but I'd go for it now and get all these aspects as they unfold. Beautiful! 92 pts pure quality, 94 pts personal preference.
