Thursday, March 24, 2016 - This might be a bit on the downhill slide, but it is still a beautiful example of an aged white wine. Surprisingly, the nose was a bit subdued and I was expecting a petrol bomb. On the palate there is an overriding sense of smokiness, which adds a depth, rather than being overpowering. There seems to be a foundation of almost cider like apples, with dried oranges, tangerines, limes, salty meyer lemon and a slight mint note all covered in a patina of 24 years of age. The acidity is fading, but the finish, while not powerful at all, has a lingering, haunting, quality to it. If you appreciate the uniqueness of aged wines, this has it in spades.
