Tuesday, March 13, 2012 - Chateau Montelena Dinner (Beacon Restaurant, NYC): Beautiful, opaque, black bing cherry red; some bricking. The nose is a little muddled, a touch volatile (but not to the point of flaw); cedar, mushroom, kirsch, coffee grounds, and balsamic. Palate very chewy with tannins; oxidized cherry and stones; inelegant tannins. Full bodied, medium length of dusty cherry. Too tannic for my tastes, especially at this age. I think this bottle is a little suspect. A serious disappointment for me!
