93 Points

Sunday, December 8, 2019 - The SLV is more dark and savory than the Fay I tasted last week, with less immediate pleasure - and probably more long-term promise. Dark purple in color and full in body, the wine offers aromas of boysenberry, ribeye, peppercorn, and fresh leather. Tastes of black cherry, graphite, grilled steak, and baking spices, with an earthy and grainy finish. 14.5% alcohol.

To be clear, I enjoyed the Fay more, since the round fruit better offset the savory undertone. The fruit of the SLV seems more damp and dark, though I expect this will work itself out with time. (For what it's worth, the SLV had more lift and depth on the second day.) 92-93 for now, with upside in a few years.
