Thursday, December 25, 2008 - This was from a magnum, purchased at auction so no clue as to the provenance of this wine up to the time I bought it. Opened with an Ah-So because of the age and the cork was in great shape, wine soaked a little over half way. Poured into a decanter for sediment. The color was more like a 10 year old Cab, no bricking just solid deep red color, the nose was not promising, kind of dirty and musty, on the palate it was a bit muted, thought it was over the hill. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and tried again, what a difference those 20 minutes made. The nose was leather, spice, fruit. In the mouth the wine had morphed into a beautiful wine with dark silky fruit and a wonderful full mouth-feel. Nice finish that lasted half a minute. Drank over three hours and the wine held up over the whole time. Having next to no hope for this wine when I opened it this is my surprise wine of 2008.
