Saturday, October 30, 2021 - If you Google Felton Road, you will come along article headlines stating "a winery world-famous for its stunning Pinot Noir". The Chardonnay remains in the background, as a kind of supplement to Central Otago's renowned grape variety. But man o' man, does this Chardy shine like a freakin' diamond. Coming from young vines (25-year-old Mendoza clones) planted on schist soils on Felton's original Elms vineyard. Drank this for the first time with the man himself - Blair Walter - and it's scrumptious as I remember it being three years ago.

White peach, lemon curd, cashews and some spice. The cool climate element comes out on the acidic backbone that carries this wine wonderfully, but there's a kinda juicy fruit concentration as well. Like when you make a really good daiquiri with just the perfect amount of lime juice and quality rum. Nutty and saline on the finish, that's crisp and long-lasting. A brilliant Chardonnay that will need a few more years to roll out, but is showing hall of fame potential straight off the bat.
