Thursday, August 26, 2021 - A bottle with unknown provenance but fill into neck and a good cork. The wine seems to be in the last quarter of its lifecycle, but after some time in the glass it turned out to be a pleasurable drink. The colour is a dark ruby at the core with significant browning at the rim. The nose is initially dominated by nail polish, wet dog and tree bark, however with some time a beautiful perfume of sweet dark fruit unfurls to create the autumnal melange of an aged Bandol. In the mouth the wine starts a bit flat but definitely gains in volume after an hour or two, becoming quite expansive on the midpalate and showing some traces of not resolved tannin on the finish. A nice surprise from a gift bottle, nonetheless it seems about time to drink up.
