Friday, December 30, 2022 - Third of three. When I popped my first of these a little under 2 years ago, I noted the intense acidity out of the bottle, which I really enjoyed, although I suspected that for many others, it wouldn’t be their cup of tea, which balanced and largely integrated with 2 hours of air. Now, that integration is complete. This is, at this point, a very solid and enjoyable Pinot, in no way subject to the over confection which afflicts, IMO, so many CA wines of the varietal, but it also, for my palate, lacks the individuality and intensity of my first bottle. I don’t see further upside, and if anything, think my “drink by” date of 2025 is ambitious. Still very worthwhile both with the usual Pinot food matches and on its own. Would absolutely buy more of this vintage to drink now, or others from good vintages for the future, at my price point. 91-92 if scoring.

2/5/2023 10:10:00 AM - Seriously are our cellars mirror images? Glad to read this review, will have to try one of these out again soon. Still have 3 left from a sonoma trip a few years ago and just forgot about them!

2/5/2023 10:59:00 AM - One of the (many) ways I like to geek out on CT is to look at others’ notes and cellars (to the extent they haven’t made them private, curses be upon them!) and see how they compare to mine on a regional basis. Other than the fact that you just have a lot more wine than I do—I know my wife would find it hard to believe that *anyone* has more wine than I do—you skew much more French and German than I do (and I more Italian and CA), but we definitely have a lot of the same tastes, and when I’m thinking about buying and see something in your cellar, or better yet, a positive TN, it is a bit of a Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. To your point, I’ve been a drinker and buyer of DG wines intermittently for years—I’ve gotten to know their team at numerous tastings in SF and visited the winery several times. I think that their wines are solid at retail, but the tranche of ‘16s, both pinots and chards, I bought through wtso, and the pricing was amazing. They often bring the wines for subsequent buying, but alas, not those. Wish I bought more!
