94 Points

Thursday, August 16, 2012 - Opened to celebrate real estate deal, cellared perfectly since purchase for $78. Very dark purple, inky with no sign of aging. Cellar temp and let warm - initial tightness with camphor notes - warming to reveal iodine, black fruit, menthol, musk and sandalwood. Velvet fruit retaining some youth, with tannin pulsing through the ample long finish. Refined and pedigreed. Plenty of time left for bottles of this, the WS date of 2008 is false. The WS retaste note on the '97 retrospective I agree with but an 86 score is ridiculously low for this quality. Laube must have burned out his taste buds with too much Kosta Browne. Will update more.
