90 Points

Sunday, January 10, 2021 - It takes 30+ minutes for the nose to open up. Some reductive notes. Minerally with some herbal notes verging on floral notes. Darker on the nose than on the palate which has a mix of dark and red berry fruit. Elegant and soft on the palate with some minerality and spice. There are Pinot qualities to this wine, but the color is much darker and the fruit is darker overall. Versatile and shines best with food. You’ll finish it quickly over the early course of the meal. In the past, I’ve never been a fan of Mencia because I found them too alcoholic and oaky, but this unoaked version shows what the grape is really like. 70,000 bottles made.
