Friday, February 4, 2022 - Awesome. I tasted this wine almost three years ago and it seemed straightforward, good body, and not revealing much to me. Now, it’s blossomed. Cream, salt, reduced butter and lemon rind. Despite that, this isn’t an oaky example of Meursaults by any stretch of the imagination. On the palate, the acidity is zingy compared to other chardonnays but straight as an arrow, evenly coating the palate. Nice body. Not overwhelming in power or richness, but has depth and subtlety. Tastes echo nose with chalky minerals. This tastes amazing to me right now as an example of “less is more”. After breathing, finish and impression is long, with citrus rind, chalk and a touch of smoke. Drank out of Zalto red Burgundy balloons, which intensified the nose and the finish. Also tried Zalto Universal glasses and wine is much more muted. Bought at University Wines in Seattle. UPDATE: Tasted remaining half bottle (sat under a bit of nitrogen) and there’s a lot more hazelnuts coming to the fore. Awesome now but also safe for a two years.
