Monday, July 13, 2020 - Signs of past seepage. Crusty between the cap and cork. It’s rusty red, almost brown at the edge. Upon opening it was pretty monolithic with just a ripe, plummy aroma. After about 45 minutes it changed. There’s aromas of old leather and even charcoal. With the change in the nose, came a more interesting profile. Brighter red fruits, a heavier tannin and maybe even a heavier sense of acid. It’s only 12% so I’m curious how that has affected the time. But then at about the one hour mark it became a flabby, overripe plum again. There was a pleasant 15 minute window that even when it was at its best, it was still over the hill. This might’ve been nice about 20 years ago.
