Friday, February 4, 2022 - Decanted for about an hour and a half; maybe it could have used more. I think the wine is technically correct but maybe just not my style. I was hoping for more “Rocks” savouriness; this was more on the sweet and fruity side of Syrah, especially on the nose: ripe cherry, slick oak, slight coffee grounds note. Definitely new world. Palate is a bit more savory but still fairly ripe and fruity with more ripe cherries, slight seaweed and mushroom powder umami but I wish it were more. There is a slight bitterness on the short-ish finish that I don’t love. The bitterness and sweet fruitiness seems to be (extremely slowly) fading as it opens up, so maybe it needs (a lot) of time? More likely just not my jam.
