NV Jacques Selosse Initial

Community Tasting Note

Saturday, August 8, 2015 - Disg: May 2014. Bruised red delicious apple, oxidative cider-like character on nose, soy sauce; palate follows with granny smith apple intense acid. Very impressive; my very first Selosse. Feels a bit broad and unfocused but ravishing and rich--as the back label affirms, "radiant and jovial". But somehow quite serious.

8/8/2015 10:46:00 PM - Thanks for the note! I've had this a few times, and your note captures it well. I will say from your broad and unfocused comment, you may have had a young bottle. I've had Initiale at 10 years of age and it does knit together well (although I've never been able to hold my own bottle that long... it always seems to disappear).

Some other wine professionals noted that it was worth drinking young as it was intended to be by Selosse, that it was worth trying to see if one appreciated the slightly oxidative style. I did indeed like it. But as is clear to see via other CT notes, you can age this and get a great return on your patient investment : ) Geez I'd've loved to try your 10y aged Initiale. We found this bottle for sale in FR for only 70EU and jumped.
