Community Tasting Note

Wednesday, March 21, 2007 - Dark ruby to garnet, completely translucent color. Nose doesn't give as much right now as I'd like, but I can coax hints of marzipane, tobacco, flowers, and blackberry out of the glass by swirling vigorously. Nice satiny texture with substantial tannins and amazing freshness on the palate. Flavors of crushed berries and volcanic rock-like minerality dominate the palate. Right now, it's all about the fruit, but I think I see the earth and funk lurking behind the wall of fruit. Good finish. Not as accessible as the Harrison Clark right now, but I think this will turn out better with some extra cellar time. I find the absence of purple color and blueberry notes very intrigiung and pleasant. Slightly reminiscent of a young St. Joseph while still obviously from California.
