Monday, February 5, 2024 - Bottle #1376 of 1512 produced. Very open and expressive aromas of violets, roses, earthiness, mild funk, and berry fruit. Palate mirrors, but is savory and was disappointing compared to the nose, punctuated by higher then expected tannins and acidity, which was distracting. Medium body. Medium finish. At the end of the day, I feel that this wine begs to be paired with food. *This wine is classified as Sierra Foothills AVA, which is one of the largest AVAs in the country with 2.6 million acres spanning many counties in California, but the fruit in the wine comes from a very specific site: Home Vineyard. This is a miniscule 2.5 acres in Yuba County, northeast of Napa, consisting of 4500 vines. *Clos Saron was founded by farmers/producers Gideon Beinstock and Saron Rice in 1999, and their Home Vineyard Pinot Noir is generally considered their flagship.
