Saturday, February 9, 2019 - It’s been a long time since I’ve tasted a ‘97 Barolo that impressed me as much as this did. The nose was dark and rich with sweet herbal tones giving way to dried cherry, potpourri, and hints of animal musk, in a much fresher-than-expected showing. On the palate, I found a zesty, energetic expression with medium-weight textures hosting mature red berry fruits and brown spices with a hint of residual tannin. The finish was long with a sweet-and-sour cherry note, minerals, spice, lingering acidity and echoes of dark florals.
