Tuesday, October 4, 2011 - On opening: nose - tannic. Palette - tannic, medium body, not much fruit. So, left bottle open for 2 and 1/2 hours (slow ox). Palette - fruit has now emerged. Nice fruit, not overbearing. Some interesting flavours, some complexities emerging. Some age related flavours. I do find the age related palette abit strong; not as delicate as many bordeaux wines. It seems as if the wine was abit over extracted when young, which has since aged. But the signs of over extraction are still there. Now scoring 91 to 92. Second day: even better. So overall: strengths - some interesting and complex flavours, and some age related complexities. Weaknesses - too much initial extraction, when the wine was young. This is just not necessary. This would have been a very fine wine now, if the vintners had resisted the American urge to over extract, which resulted in both initial excess tannin (which still remains) and fruit.
