Tuesday, July 28, 2020 - It's 1984 All Over Again!
Well, at least for this wine! It was just about two years ago that I reviewed this same wine but from the 2017 vintage. I knew I had to buy it again, especially since I was paying just about half of what I paid previously! I love a good sale and a good wine. I got both!
I could regale you with the history of the winery, but if you’re interested you can go to my post www.hiitsdon4wine.com/dons-blog/2018/10/8/eighty-four-albarino-2017 for details, suffice to say it’s a wine produced by Doug Shafer and longtime vineyard manager Elias Fernandez who first started working together in 1984. Enough history.
Coming from estate-grown fruit in Carneros within the Napa Valley, the wine, just as with the previous vintage, begins with aromas of citrus and a slightly honeyed note. On the palate, it continues those citrus nuances with orange and stone fruit mixed with pleasant minerality together with a crisp and lively finish as the wine sees no oak or goes through any malo.
There’s not much Albariño coming from the states, so this makes the wine a standout, throw in how good it is, and it’s a no-brainer.
Cheers
