Thursday, May 6, 2021 - Like some of the other recent reviews, I too was worried that this was a bit over the hill but found that was absolutely not the case. The wine has a beautifully aged medium/light red brick color, showing both life and maturity at the same time. Nose is all secondary elements at this point: tobacco, cedar, with perhaps some dark fruits lurking in the background. Tannins, though clearly on the downslope, are still present, a very nice surprise that nicely elongated the finish. Elements of blue fruit, charcoal and cigar smoke round it out nicely. I'd say that it's approaching the end of it's ideal drinking window, but in fairness, some other drinkers thought that 5 years ago. Also worth noting that at current release prices (~$100) it offers relatively good value among California equivalent offerings.
