Sunday, October 11, 2020 - Orvieto is Umbria's most famous white wine, consisting mostly of Grechetto with Trebbiano and other local varieties mixed in. The chalky "tufa" limestone soil and remnants of volcanic soil supposedly give a unique character to these wines.

Medium straw in color, this wine has some floral notes in the nose along with tropical fruit (especially pineapple). It is highly acidic and a bit tart. One will find the flavor is bright with pineapple and lemon, and a certain minerality creeps in after a few sips. There is a lingering acidity that lends crispness to the finish that is accompanied by a bit of honey.

This wine is fairly simplistic and doesn't stand out much, out but it's great easy drinking with tilapia or breaded chicken. Definitely a food wine, so to speak.
