Sunday, April 12, 2020 - Easter during Covid lockdown. I wondered what this was like now. Decanted. Dark mahogany, and mostly opaque. Bouquet with a telltale eucalyptus to tell you this isn't Portugal. It smells like vintage port and nicely ripe sweaty Oz syrah together. Palate has a lot of zesty acids - thank goodness. Nice bones and structure there. Not a flabby sweet pudding. This is actually very comparable to vintage port in character and stature. The flavour profile is skewed towards sweat and raspberry due to the syrah for sure, but it's all figs and raisins and honeyed herbs too. Kind of fresh and yet mature. Long and complex. More Fonseca than Taylor, in terms of style. The flavour is unique. This is really very good indeed! Perhaps a tiny touch spirity at the end, but that is a quibble. Damn, why didn't I buy loads of this back in the 90s???

(Going to have some with some Roquefort tomorrow too!)
