Monday, April 26, 2010 - Deep color, high-ish viscosity. Upon opening the wine was tight, backwards and showing a bit of age; it was slightly h-ani-mal a la Burgundy/Rhone at first but not Brett, just bottle funk... As it opened the funk gave way to dark blue and black fruit, dry herbal notes, vanillins, leather, rootbeer and mulberry extract. Over the course of three hours it became plush with blue fruits, toasted anise, dry dill, cocoa butter on leather and dry, bitter chocolate; the tannins were soft and chewy; moderate acids were balanced with nice schwack of alcohol; moderate length and complexity, just what I would expect from a baby Vega. My impression is that wine has many years in front of it properly cared for, though it is enjoyable now.
