90 Points

Tuesday, December 5, 2023 - Quite dark garnet color, nose is a bit reticent, showing some dark crushed fruit, a touch of smokiness; the first couple of 18 beaujolais I’ve had were about as expected: a bit larger framed, somewhat burly, some notably ripe. This bottle is showing some very nice promise, with fairly rich but calm fruit, lovely intensity and some nice flavor complexity. Burgaud, as always, is a darker, more intense bojo, definitely at one end of the spectrum. I’ve called this a rhone drinker’s beaujolais. Overall, nicely balanced, juicy, lush, tasty, and a fine outcome in the warm 2018 vintage.
