Tuesday, November 23, 2021 - 100% Ruchè. Fermented spontaneously, bottled unfined and unfiltered. 13% alcohol. Tasted in a Rinaldi Rosae 2019-2011 vertical.

Somewhat translucent and slightly evolved dark red color. Ripe and big but more savory than sweet nose with aromas of phenolic spice, some licorice tones, a little bit of gravelly minerality, light brambly notes of black raspberries, a faint hint of perfumed floral character and a touch of earth. The wine is dry, slightly soft and subtly funky on the palate with a moderately full body and rich yet savory flavors of black cherries, some leathery notes of brett, a little bit of gravelly minerality, light plummy tones, a hint of smoky phenolic character and a touch of black raspberry. Although enjoyably savory, the wine suffers a bit from its lack of structure, the acidity being quite modest and the tannins almost nonexistent. The finish is juicy, moderately long and quite rich with no perceptible tannic grip and rather savory flavors of licorice, some ripe black cherries, a little bit of gravelly minerality, light smoky notes of phenolic spice, a solar hint of sweet, wizened red plums and a touch of black raspberry.

A pleasant but also rather soft vintage of Rosae that comes across as a bit clumsy and flabby when tasted next to the fresh 2019 vintage and the stern, tannic 2017 vintage. Although the wine never comes across as overripe or sweet, the warm and solar nature of the 2018 vintage is very obvious here. Without much acidity or any tannic grip, the wine lacks bite and freshness and the juicy fruit is missing definition. While this is an enjoyable wine in its own right, this was by far the least remarkable vintage we had in the vertical. If I were you, I'd choose any other 2010's vintage of Rosae over this one.
