Wednesday, August 12, 2020 - Oh my god. Pure infanticide here. I know that these wines are immortal but I need more of this to see it to its peak. Nose is gorgeous, mouthwatering, with just-ripe blackberry, resinous dried mint, dill, nutmeg, pina colada, cigar box, cola. Palate has huge juicy acid, lovely medium leathery tannin, cherry, beautifully savory at the end. I'd suggest not even touching this for another 5 years - the oak still needs some time to integrate and the development of tertiary flavors will help round out the acidity. But, at this stage of its development, I think this is the best Viña Ardanza since 2001 - it has the same incredible vivacity of that vintage. It might even be better. I can't believe I only paid $25 for this - are you kidding me? Even at its normal retail of $30-40 it is a screaming QPR. 13.5%
