90 Points

Friday, April 26, 2024 - Brambly nose shows blackberry, black raspberry, and toffee. Firm palate delivers a smack of dry black fruits, iron, black peppercorn, and a dark briny note riding on acidity. The brine builds onto the finish with dry, sticky tannins, stewed black fruit, peppery dry herbal notes, and lots of fruit skins mixing with oak. Complex but slightly austere as the fruit is dark and brooding.

Instead, they're "how do score this wine at this tasting". That means they can be affected by set and setting - i.e. how I felt at hat moment, what I was looking for in the wine, and perhaps even how it paired with what I ate it with, etc... I literally just pick a number that comes to me - something I believe Robert Parker once said he did and I was inspired by years ago.

In this case, I think it simply keep off as too austere and lacking enough fruit to feel balanced... but I've got one more bottle so we'll see if I feel that way the next time!
