Thursday, September 8, 2011 - Tasted again in almost 2 years since the last one, shockingly different result! The bottle has gained more complexity, albeit slightly low in concentration, and evolved into a very elegant style. A little more power would have been perfect. On the visual, the wine exhibits deep purple color with a tinge of ruby hue. On the nose, a beautiful bouquet of herbal overtone with ginseng, rose petal and some barnyard component blended in, along with some secondary smell of french oak, vanilla, cedar, pencil shavings, graphite, light smoke, revealing aromas of red currant, cherry, blueberry and plum. Complex nose in perfect balance with low heat and intensity, suggesting peace and harmony. Ripe cherry, cassis, blueberry and plum attack backed by a nice structure of gracefully silky and smooth tannin that is fine-grained and well-rounded. Still good acidity. Medium finish, with sour cherry and plum fruit finishing with Chinese herbs, vanilla, cedar and coffee. Drinking quite nicely and very mature, but judging from the solid structure with nice tannin and still fresh acidity, the wine will continue to hold and develop more complexity. Drink before 2014.
