Monday, September 22, 2008 - Bought a case of this wine and cracked open a bottle to assess how long it needs. Obviously drinking way too young at the moment. Appearance: Intense, dark, glistening. Nose: Wow - serious nose of cedar, vanilla, dark cherries, rich earth and brooding dark fruits. This has notes of Bordeaux and Burgundy in there in a powerful and complex mix. Taste: Complex, full, oppulent. Fine tannins cut through the rich fruit - there is a bit of acidity. At the moment the taste is a bit cloying and rich but this will dissapate with age. There is a bit of heat from the alcohol right now, but not surprising given the age of the wine. This is certainly more complex that previous Alion's I have had.
Tasted the next day but it was plummy and flat.
This wine needs at least 5 years for the constituent parts to integrate - and will age for 10 years+. Utterly wonderful and will improve.
