Thursday, March 14, 2024 - Bottled in the 1970's. Opened and poured an hour later without decanting. Pale garnet with browning rim. Some musty aromas which raised the question of TCA, but no, just old Rioja funk that blew off. Pine and sharper green notes on the nose, but some wafting red berry fruit that peaked within several hours of the bottle being open. Light, delicate, and high acidity on the palate. Transient sweetness as above, saline and mineral at its core, little remaining tannin. It started to dry out and become astringent after about 2 hours. This was not as good as several other bottles of this cuvée that we've had, but so it goes with 50 year old bottles. It is still alive, but if you open one, don't linger; enjoy it for its fleeting charm before it falls apart.
