93 Points

Thursday, November 12, 2009 - Drank across 3 nights. Each night topping off with Wine Preserve gas, corking and putting back in the cellar at 58 degrees. Each night I drank the glass across 1 to 1.5 hours starting at 58 degrees and allowing the wine to warm to room temperature. First night: 91 pts Tannins are very tight, in your face and up front. There is a massive core of heavy fruit hiding in the background. Black and red fruit tangling through the long concentrated finish showing decent weight on the palate with integrated oak. This needs hours of decanting to break through the tight pronounced tannins. Very hedonistic at this point. Note: Best flavor profile at room temperature. Night two: 94 pts Starting to open up nicely, fruit is more refined and balanced. Tannins have moved to the background, but are still noticeable. Starting to get some Vanilla and cassis subtelties with a more silky mouth feel. Much better than day one. What a difference. Night three: 92+ pts Tannins are still detectable in the background and the fruit has started to mellow. Showing a bit lighter mature style that is more integrated with a slight hint of oxidation coming into play. Overall a great wine and a wonderful 3 night experience for this price point. Best results if drinking in 1 night: decant for 2-4 hours and drink at room temperature. Note: Drank from Riedel Bordeaux glass. – MarkKnap@yahoo.com
