94 Points

Saturday, December 25, 2010 - Very tight upon opening- then decanted 4+ hours. A very dark, almost black, garnet color. Just a little clarity, almost opaque, as it coats the glass. A full array of aromas on the bouquet- currant, mineral-slate, black tea, tobacco, and raspberry. Full bodied, yet airy and gliding on the palate. Seamless flavors that brought to mind blueberry, cassis, currant, raspberry, black tea, tobacco, mineral, coffee, menthol, and peppercorn. Silky and lush through the mid palate, where notes of pencil shavings and cedar surface. Great structure, balance, and refinement. The tannins are still very firm and gripping; but tamed by the lush and ripe fruit. Strong on the finish, with consistent flavors that last between 45 seconds and 1 minute. I'd give this a good long decant, or more years in the bottle. I loved it though, a great wine.
