Saturday, May 27, 2023 - 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Chatelots planted firmly in the center of the appellation with Comblanchien Limestone pushing the minerality of the wine front and center allowing for both immediate enjoyment welcomed by the fleshy mouthfeel but also a treasure if held for a bit longer in the cellar. Hold for 1-2 more years before fully enjoying this primary stage - then longer for full development.

6/4/2023 5:52:00 AM - Darn I was thinking of drinking this one in a few weeks with Mark but sounds like I should hold? I wanted a burg on the more extracted side that is not crazy expensive to help lure him over from the cab world….

6/4/2023 10:08:00 AM - This is the right producer however ‘18 vintage is tough in Burgundy in general. While they should be on the riper fleshy giving side, I don’t always find that the case and/or I find they picked earlier to avoid and we’ll you know just like Cabs they are not ready phenolic/ripe.

Do you own a bunch or know where to get access of Sigaut wines (meaning can I suggest an alternative Sigaut)?

6/4/2023 11:13:00 AM - Oooohhh let the games begin lol.

Don't get me wrong it is a beautiful wine that anyone should appreciate but if you have the opportunity to showcase another, may I suggest both a Morey St Denis & Chambolle-Musigny so he can see how different these two Cote Nuits can be?

Clos St Denis will be a bit more black fruit and power and the C-M will be a bit more elegant and finesse (just a suggestion) and both are ~$100 for their premier cru. Their C-M Les Sentiers VV & Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes would be two to look for... vintage wise... do you bring him the 2019s, 2020 or some with some age for him to see what it is all about? In that case 2017/2018 as he might better understand why we like Burg so much while still in the primary phase?

I had the 2018 C-M Sentiers VV and with air is drinking really well. The 2020 MSD Les Millandes is a powerhouse wine.

I put together a Sigaut wine dinner next Thursday in Arizona as I have been loving these wines (just had their CLos De La Roche for this second time and it is stunning and same price or under Napa Valley wines as it was their first vintage plus they are not a recognized label- yet). I can report back after Thursday on the new updates if that is not too late?

6/4/2023 3:03:00 PM - Thanks Lite, those are great suggestions. I am thinking I will now wait until Marks's visit in late August to do this (rather than our tasting in June), so I have plenty of time to figure it out. I'm jealous of your Sigaut dinner!!! Some day I will get to one of your dinners. Unfortunately the rest of the year is a bad combo of excessive work travel and orthopedic surgeries so it won't be soon.
But in the meantime I will check out your reco's and see what I have/can get and also look forward to the feedback from your dinner.
