Friday, March 29, 2024 - My very first bottle from Saxum. Decanted and immediately drank with friends at the Ghost Tree Grill at Bandon Dunes. Incredible nose and mouthfeel right off the bat. Was amazing by itself and with food (Kurobuta pork chops). I don’t think I have ever had a better wine. My dinner companions put it in the top 3 all time for them.
This was my very first vintage purchased from Saxum and I haven’t drunk a single bottle until now. I had spent so much $$$ on Saxum wine without ever tasting it, I decided I needed to try at least one bottle to see if it made sense for me to continue buying more, effectively “sight unseen”.
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your POV, I will be buying as much Saxum as I can under allocation in the future. It was that good and was worth the wait.

3/29/2024 9:17:00 PM - It was getting to the point that I was concerned about throwing good ones after bad IF I didn’t really love the wine. If I had tried it at a tasting somewhere, it would be a different story. But I was basing thousands of dollars of purchases on other people’s opinions.
The idea of sinking a couple more grand on wine and then finally opening a bottle 5 more years down the road and going “meh, I’ve had better” was starting to freak me out a bit. So I looked at the reviews and picked what I thought was the most ready of the 2018s I had in my cellar and brought it to a nice dinner.
I am feeling so much better let me tell you. I don’t have a problem spending money on stuff I like. But I don’t spend money to “show off” especially on things I don’t really love. If the wine was just really good, but not spectacular, I wouldn’t buy another bottle as there a lot of really good wines for 1/2 the price.
But now I am sold on Saxum.
