95 Points

Sunday, December 10, 2023 - Just a wonderful bottle of Napa cab. Agree wholeheartedly with Jeb's description of the wine but not prepared to give 98+ points. It benefits from decanting as it integrates, deepens and its finish lengthens with air. I agree with Marshmallowman that drinking it confirms that I'm a "very lucky guy". Classic Venge style in winemaking. Wish I had more!

12/10/2023 1:32:00 PM - What? You mean you weren't the guy on Winebid that bought 165 bottles of this for near $15k?

I have 6 that I haven’t touched because I was burned by too many ‘not ready’ 2018’s. Glad to see some nice reviews on it

12/11/2023 4:59:00 AM - Yes, DQ it did, at like $85/bottle! I've seen a lot of high volume sales like that in the past 6 months on Winebid. The '13 Pillar Rock comes to mind this past year as well. 120 bottles disappeared overnight. If you look hard enough you can find the real numbers of bottles up for auction. I think the site maxes out at 35 bottles most times but if you click on a few things you can see the real number of bottles they have available. I'm sure they've bought up a lot of other wines as well, like the '19 Family Reserve which disappeared very quickly too. I know that FB and I didn't buy them all out! The past couple of months have seen at least 1000+ bottles of Venge liquidated.

12/11/2023 3:47:00 PM - DQ - I doubt these are coming from the winery at such a deep discount, and especially during the wineries scheduled fall release of similar wines. Mark and I have our theories. At that price, Kirk could have repurchased for a future library release.
I’m still trying to figure out who snatched the four bottles of EABA I thought I had locked down yesterday on that site

12/11/2023 5:09:00 PM - Andy, I'm hoping to do another trip after the first of the year.....Carol is having back surgery tomorrow. I'm putting mine off til May, I hope. Plenty of drinking to do before then, my friend! We'll have a grand time! FB...I'll keep you posted!

ps....Andy, even though I was born on a Marine base in So Cal, I was raised at Front and Spring Garden and at the Bridge Street station of the El....at least til we left for Jersey! I've loved the last 40 years in FL and raising my sons to be Phillies fans by taking them to Clearwater every spring. Terry Francona was a patient of mine and even let them bat boy a few games when they were little.....fun times!

12/11/2023 6:06:00 PM - Mark - that is fantastic! Phils are a fun team again! I originally grew up in North Jersey, so I'm a dreaded Yanks fan. But am afflicted by incurable NY sports teams mediocrity! I've enjoyed my last 40+ years in PA and have even been twisted by my kids to enjoy Philly teams (unless they're playing the Yanks, Jets, Rangers or Knicks). Now you know why I drink so much wine!! Was in Clearwater this year for Spring Training game myself. Look forward to meeting you! Cheers!

12/11/2023 6:26:00 PM - Andy, you need to let me know when you come down again to Clearwater for a game! Always fun there!

Side note: I played a lot of street hockey, then ice hockey growing up in Philly '73-77 in the Flyers heyday. Played goalie and patterned myself after Bernie Parent but also Gilles Villemure (because I was a lefty) who was a lefty goalie for the Rangers. The only lefty I think in the NHL at that time. His partner was Eddie Giacomin. I have a side business in retirement here in FL making candles out of wine bottles. Lo and behold Eddie's daughter came into my booth this past weekend! What a freaking scene in my head! He's 84 now and still signing autographs for people according to her......

12/13/2023 2:52:00 PM - Mark -- you bet I'll contact you the next time I'm down there. Spring Training or otherwise! I'm sure you have lots of empty bottles to make candles -- so environmentally conscious!! Eddie G was a legend in NY. Those were the Flyers heyday! GREAT STUFF!

12/13/2023 3:02:00 PM - Andy, it's a deal! I know some really good steak houses in the Clearwater/Tampa area where we can bring our own bottles, too. I NEVER travel ANYWHERE in Florida or the WORLD without my own wines....should be fun!
