Sunday, February 17, 2013 - Decanted for a couple of hours before tasting. Dark purple core, pink rim. On the nose; dusty dark plums and blackcurrants – showing some signs of age and typicity with hints of cigar ash and pencil lead appearing as the wine opens up further in the glass. On the palate; slender, cool fruit – smooth and well balanced, but lacking concentration and length. Disturbingly enough the wine seemed to get thinner and thinner as the evening progressed, which probably isn’t good news for its ability to age (at least I won’t wait more than two to three years before opening my last bottle). All in all a decent wine – you get the sense of drinking Bordeaux, but there’s no “wow factor”. In my experience this is however more or less what you might expect for a “meagre” $60 in this part of the world.
