Monday, January 29, 2024 - Château La Cabanne's 2019 iteration is an opaque ruby, impressively aromatic wine. Comprised of 100% Merlot, it serves up scents of black currants, morello cherries, exotic spices, espresso, lavender and bay leaf. Medium-to-full-bodied, seamlessly alcoholic (14.5%) and judiciously oaked, it delivers flavors in line with the aromas, adding notes of cocoa that are buttressed with lively acids and plentiful silky-textured tannins. Layered in the middle and long on the back end, this is a deceivingly structured Pomerol that will provide pleasure for many years to come. Following Vinturi decantation, tasting of this bottle commenced after the wine had been in carafe for more than two hours. It was fully expressive throughout the subsequent three-hour tasting interval. Drink now-2044.
