Per the house style and geography it's a heavyweight by St. Emilion standards, and this vintage not just rich but also very muscular with its tannin and it needed a few hours of air to shift from raw and ripping to still tannic but now merely tight and grippy. But it remains a little drying as well as alcoholically stiff which was part of the challenge. The fruit is characteristic merlot plumminess though also heavily stamped with cigar-box oakiness, which added some interesting flavors on the back end but also contributed to the dryness and the challenge in getting enjoyment out of this at the moment.
