2019 Château Durfort-Vivens

Community Tasting Note

Wednesday, November 15, 2023 - Decanted about an hour before dinner and drank over two hours. An excellent young Bordeaux, but I wouldn’t commit to 95+ yet. The nose is already alluring, with red fruit dominating. The palate is not quite as open, but still quite fine with a lingering, plush finish. Might well be 95+ in time, and I might simply lack the imagination to score it so today. Glad I bought a bunch, but this will likely be better to my taste in 3-5+ years.

11/16/2023 9:23:00 AM - Thanks for your comment; I’m sure you are right. As a very general rule of thumb, I’ve found that the hours of optimal decant now are roughly equal to number of years in the cellar to hit early drinking window. So I’ll probably drink something else for the next few years and check in again on this in 2026 or 2027.
