Sunday, November 7, 2021 - Method: blind against 9 other 2019 Spatlese; ice bucket cold (colder than I prefer); opened a few hours in advance
Nose: ripe peach, ginger
Palate: papaya, ripe peach, key lime, minerality, parsley, light ginger; medium+ finish of parley, rocks, ginger; medium- sweetness; medium body; medium+ piquant acidity
Overall thoughts: Great concentration with ripe fruit (without being too much) and nice ginger spice, and very nice acidity creating a nice tension. I guessed Fritz Haag. My #4 wine of the tasting. Great wine.
Update: I had this on day *7* and OH MY GOODNESS, this wine was on FIRE! The baby fat had melted away and I was left with pretty searing acidity (in a good way) that just set my palate ablaze and dared the sugar to try its best, and the ginger note was much more sharp prominent, which really elevated both the complexity and the contrast against the fruit. Honestly, it was pretty outrageous on day 7 and if I were taking notes / paying more attention, I would probably have scored this a 96 (maybe 95) on day 7. Based on this, I think this has outstanding potential and this deserves to be forgotten about for at least 10 - 15 years. In the long run, this might prove to be the Spatlese of the vintage (or close to it).
