Saturday, August 13, 2022 - Double decanted in the AM for sediment, at which time it was a little tight, then decanted and drunk over a couple hours in the PM. Full disclosure, I adore Leoville Barton.

A beautiful nose of cassis, violet, tobacco, and soil notes. A fantastic and comforting nose like your favorite old blue jeans. On the palate, it's mid plus weighted and classically proportioned, but the magic of the nose was not matched by the palate. I'm picking nits here as it was quite good, but relatively firm at first and a little compact on the palate, with more of the same cassis, tobacco, violet, and some ferrous notes on the back end. Even after a few hours, it finishes a bit clipped for what the nose promised. Still outstanding and then some, but not the best bottle I have had. The nose was wonderful, the palate merely very good to outstanding. I don't think this is drying out or fading, but I'll likely try another bottle some time not too far away. 92
