Monday, December 5, 2022 - Greatest Hits of the 1980s and 1990s Bordeaux (Hawksmoor Guildhall): Deep red. Initially muted on the nose, giving little up and I found it needed some coaxing to emerge. What 33 year old wine needs coaxing?! Wow! Cassis and cream starts to grow on you as you warm and swirl, and the first sip can only be described as a silken caress. It glides. This is a reallly sexy wine, feminine, lithe, elegant, cool, with no rough edges. It is also very precise and focussed, not hiding in it's shell, but nonetheless streamlined and reserved. A wonderful bottle that we all really enjoyed, but pipped to the post for me by the more developed and tertiary 1985 Gruaud-Larose.
