Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 1989 Pichon Baron, Pauillac, France. $40 on release, $160 currently. I only bought two, so I had been waiting on this. Decanted 1.5 hours, but tasted upon opening. Delicious both ways. The bouquet is true to its commune, but not effusive as say a St. Julien or Margaux may be. Clearly a California style as some have noted. This is a powerful Pauillac that remains elegant. Tannin is fully integrated and resolved. The color is still a dark ruby, indicating this will likely last another twenty years. The finish is persistent, midpalate is lush and layered. Flavors of current, flint, cherry. A complete wine. 92 points bouquet, 96 points palate.
