Wednesday, January 5, 2011 - This is undoubtedly going to be a great wine, but it needs more time to mellow and round out. Tried my first bottle the day after New Year thinking it may be approachable given how the 2004 has been drinking so well for 2 years now, but it was too early. There are excellent cabernet fruits lurking and ready to come out but the tannins are too prominent right now, standing out along with a strong hint of mint that both need to integrate and join the other tantilizing layers vs. dominating as they do today.

Had this bottle along with the '05 Tor Beckstoffer-ToKalon and an '05 Plumpjack Oakville Estate cabernets and the Tor took WOTN hands down with the Plumpjack just loosing out to the Hillside. In another 2 to 3 years the Hillside would undoubtedly blow the doors off of the Plumpjack, but not yet, but how it performs then vs. the Tor will make for a really interesting and fun evening .. c'mon 2013!!!
