Saturday, February 24, 2024 - My memory of Menzies is a ridiculously oaked and therefore rather inaccessible wine at least in youth. This is therefore something of a surprise in that it’s quite approachable.
That said, the alcohol is annoying (14.5%). And yes it’s heavily oaked. Not particularly obviously Coonawarra terroir.
I enjoyed it more the 1st night than the 2nd (kept under zero oxygen).
Seriously good vineyards, but a tad silly recipe?
Yalumba need to do some reflection if they want this wine to be (taken as) serious/premium.
14.5%, cork.
