Friday, March 17, 2017 - Some wine with friends (@home): Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
Popped and poured. Tasted blind.
Clear, medium ruby color with garnet rims. Clean, medium intense, developing nose with aromas I had nevery smelled before in a wine: Caramel, Dulce de lece, condensed milk. These aromas overlay all fruit. Spices, oak in the back. Very strange but interesting, compact and dense.
Dry, medium+, well integrated acidity, silky tannin, medium+ body, a bit broad (13,5% abv). Aromas of cherry, condensed milk, American oak. Creamy mouthfeel, quite some pressure. Never ever guessed that this could be a Rioja. Still young, but you can drink it now. Potential for further ageing of at least 5-10 years. Do I like it? Hmm, honestly I don’t now…
