Tuesday, November 13, 2007 - Leoville-Barton Vertical (Nook): Inky nose. Surprisingly restrained tannin gives it a drinkable smoothness, with just a touch of astringency. The aroma gains pungency over time with an interesting nuttiness. It's a nice surprise how much of the tannin has resolved itself, but let's be clear that this is still a young wine. It's the first in the lineup to still show its oak influence with some charred, blackened flavors, not so radically that it feels like a style change rather than an artifact of its age, but it's a sign that it's worth waiting for more integration.
