Likes this wine:

flawed

Monday, April 3, 2023 - I agree with the other notes here, this was tasty and enjoyable for me but clearly extremely funky and uncontrolled, the dirty kind of natural wine, very sour with kombucha notes, barnyard, fermented cherry like a Kriek beer, and surprisingly coarse, harsh tannins for a Pinot Noir, let alone one with 7 years on it. A little bit of cleaner, minerally black cherry fruit eventually emerged on day two, but it was still overwhelmingly sour/bretty. I can tell it's made with love and a hands-off approach, but it didn't really feel like a "wine of place", instead exactly resembling so many other ultra-natural wines I've tried in what SHOULD be entirely different styles. I had originally given this a score but after the comment on my Note, decided to mark it flawed. Simply too much brett and weird dirty tones to give it a proper ranking, even if it was fun in the abstract.

4/3/2023 1:42:00 PM - your description does not really ring any bell for this wine. We happen to have had it last night at a Clos Saron dinner at Watershed in Mill Valley, CA and pretty much non of your descriptors match my own experience, or whatever was voiced by the group. I hope that someone else from that group will chime in. It does have some Brett, but that is of the well integrated and enjoyable kind, and does not come across as funky 'natural' wine, it has no bacteriological notes whatsoever, no 'mouse', no VA... It would seem that you were unlucky with your bottle.

4/3/2023 2:39:00 PM - Thanks very much for your input. Considering that, I'll go ahead and mark it as flawed, not really fair to give it a rating in that case.
